Climate Resilient Landscapes

Jo, Aly and Greg were part of the team that created Climate Resilient Landscapes – A Planting Guide for the Northern Rivers Region.

The guide aims to help residents to adapt to climate variability. The guide explains the changes that our region is likely to experience and the steps we can take to prepare our gardens and the wider landscape to be resilient through these changes.

There are lists of endemic native species which are drought tolerant, fire resilient, flood resilient, salt tolerant, frost tolerant, wind tolerant, sequester carbon, and provide habitat and food.

My Local Native Garden

Jo and Aly were part of the team that created My Local Native Garden – a guide that aims to promote biodiversity in the Byron Shire.

This publication helps landowners in the Byron area to create a native garden in their backyard. The booklet provides tips on designing and planning a garden using natives, and recommends species suitable to plant in Byron Shire’s main landscapes – coastal, riverine and alluvial, foothills and hinterland, ridges and ranges.

The guide was so successful that is has since been adapted for the Tweed Shire and Lismore City Council areas.

North Coast Koala Habitat Trees Field Key; book and workshops – DCCEEW Northern Rivers (2024 - )

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (2024) enlisted the EarthScapes team to develop a taxonomic key featuring 61 koala tree species in the North Coast Koala Management Area (KMA). This detailed resource can now be used as a tool to inform and empower koala conservation practitioners, and those engaged in habitat restoration works.
Seven workshops focused on educating koala carers and restoration experts in the correct use of the keys, with practical field experience provided.
