Phyllanthus Microcladus

The EarthScapes Consulting team, in collaboration with Brunswick Valley Landcare, have been engaged by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) to locate and protect a small, endangered shrub known as Brush Sauropus. It is a small shrub to 35 cm tall, with stout main branches and small wedge-shaped or rounded leaves clustered on short, fine branchlets. It is only found in a few isolated NSW locations, including the Brunswick valley.
Through the use of advanced GIS mapping, a survey of the riparian zones recorded over 2000 sightings. GPS coordinates, species abundance, condition and site information were recorded and mapped. This information has aided the identification of target areas for weed control. EarthScapes’ collaborative projects such as this ensure that this endangered plant is protected, allowing the endemic population in the Brunswick Valley to increase.
More information about this species in northern NSW can be found here.
